2021 Orange Lutheran Baseball Media

No gallery with this one, just sharing some cool stuff. You’ll remember a couple of sessions I had with these boys earlier in the year, one in the studio and one at the field. That original studio session still had something left to give and we squeezed fourteen senior banners out it. Fourteen ties the record by the way.

At the field session I knew we were shooting the photos for the baseball media guide, I DIDN’T know I was going to be asked to create the cover with them. We worked back and forth and this was what we came up with. It went to the next level for final approval and there was concern that the maskless boys in the dugout had the potential to upset someone. Unbelievable, but at the time it was a valid argument. Remember this?!

We did a full reset, and I reconfigured the horizontal poster I had put together earlier and made it work vertically and we used that instead. The first one was so good I needed to share it somewhere! I like Option B, but it was purposefully muted to make the image work. I just love the color popping on the original.

Nowhere on my website do I mention editing other people’s photos, but I do. Usually it’s something like this, a little but of a reclamation project with a composite to wrap it up. This was their traditional “all dressed up at the beach” shoot, more content for the media guide. I was asked to take these but we couldn’t schedule it and one of the team parents shot the boys at the beach. There were a number of scenes, groups and buddies. I worked on it all, but especially like how this one turned out.

The sun was directly behind and each boy was dark in shadow. Virtually impossible to get punch up detail in black tuxedos in harsh shadow, but I think the skin, hat, and beach scene draws your eye from that. After I brightened and colored up the individuals, I clipped them out for another fake “socially distant” group shot.

Unbelievably, I was still milking that original studio session for a few more personal jobs. Parents of six of the boys had me create solo pages in the media guide. I put them in locker scenes with personalized memorabilia. Logan’s mom liked it enough that we reworked it and used a modified version on the back of his graduation announcements! B.
