Christine's 40th Birthday Party
I admit I was nervous about this one. I normally shoot sports. In daylight. I have branched out to shoot a few select family portraits, but that stuff is posed. For me this was a whole different deal, and I appreciate the Eylers giving me a try. I have taken tens of thousands of photos with my camera and until this night the flash has been used only by accident! I also bought a new lens just for this party, so there's a double learning curve. I didn't really get comfortable until after a half hour in, and you'll notice it about 50 pictures in. I stayed away from shooting pictures of seated or posed groups and aimed for candids of folks having fun. The new lens was an 85mm 1.8 and I really pushed it when I thought the low light was enough, but it was tough. In post I created some macros that I used to give the grainier shots a softer feel, and added some disco light bokeh as well. Some shots will have two versions, the "Disco" version, and an original version if I thought a shot was good enough on it's own. The digital files have been paid for, so this gallery is heavily discounted if you'd like to order prints or other items. Lots of fun, and I'm glad Christine is allowing me to share it!
